Portrait Miniature of a Jacksonian Era Girl with Long Ringlets of Dark Hair
This miniature will certainly appeal to collectors of both portrait miniatures and early Americana. The subject wears a gray dress with a lace collar. She also wears a golds brooch at her collar.
The portrait is painted in watercolor and housed under glass in a wooden frame with carved details. On the reverse is a later typewritten note that is partially eroded. The young girl is identified as Mary but the rest of her name is illegible. The name of Reginald Paynter also appears. The artist is unknown and it is possible that there might be other identifying notes hidden inside the frame.
