This Late Georgian\/Early Victorian is crafted in gold sheet which renders it lightweight. 3 tiny Persian turquoise stones are set into each side of the piece. There is carved mother of pearl in each side with a scene of two deer and one of a hunting dog killing a rabbit. The carvings are exceptional. A glass lens covers  the portrait to the front and the reverse is a panel of mother of pearl.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRichard Crosse was born in Devonshire in the 1740s. He was born deaf and mute and took up miniature painting as a hobby. In 1758 at the age of 16, he was awarded a premium for drawing by the society for the Encouragement of the Arts, Manufactures, and Commerce, which motivated him to relocate to London to hone his skills further. He studied at Shipley’s Drawing School and the Duke of Richmond’s gallery. In 1789 he was appointed Painter in enamel to King George III.
