Black Enamel Mourning Ring with Hair Compartment

A special and lovely example of Victorian Mourning Jewelry. A gold mourning ring with a compartment that opens up to reveal woven hair behind glass. On the lid appears to be a crest with a gryphon and crown.  Black scrolling enamel with segments spell out “In Memory of”. Underneath the compartment is the name “Joshua Moss 6 September 1879. A wonderful tribute to a long loss individual 


Condition: 
Normal antique wear, some oxidation to the gold, very minimal wear to the black enamel

Age:  1879

Dimensions: Size 11, this ring cannot be resized as the enamel work reaches around the entire ring
